Welcome to our bookshop/café.
We opened in March 2009. Boulevard Bookshop cafe is a unique dining experience, the chance to enjoy good food, good books and we hope you bought good wine or beer to enjoy as well.
Whilst you are here please feel free to browse amongst our book shelves before you graze on our delicious home cooked food. Books may be taken to your table, to read whilst your order is prepared. Our food is home cooked in the Thai tradition. Nothing is pre-cooked and all the ingredients are, as far as possible, fresh and from Thailand.
This is genuine fresh fast food.
The everyday items we buy from normal supermarkets - we do not use catering suppliers.
We charge £2 per head corkage. No need to worry about which wine to bring - bring a selection and some stoppers so you can take the left-overs home.

We supply glasses, ice coolers and even open the bottles for you!
WINE CHOICE
Remember the tax on wine is just 2.00 per litre (2011) but it is the same for all grades/prices of wine. For example a 4.99 bottle of wine will contain just 2.10 worth of wine whilst a 9.99 bottle of wine will contain 7.10 worth of wine after tax and bottle costs are deducted! You get 3x better wine for about twice the price.
When you order your meal the food will be freshly cooked to your taste, be that spicy or not, and all dietary needs can be discussed. The food can be cooked exactly as you like it, and you can be sure that it is as fresh as possible.
We will your order and can temper the food to the degree of hotness you like.
The choice of meat or the
vegan vegetarian options can also be discussed.
We live over the shop/café which is why we can truly say “ Our food is home cooked”, and dining in the Boulevard bookshop café is like being at a dinner party.
During the evening we find guests sometimes strike up conversations with other diners for mutual pleasure.
We are happy if you stay after your meal is over, on busy nights we take bookings for, at most, 15 covers, and we like people to chat and relax, as we find we sell more books that way!
The bookshop used to be open all the time the café is operating, but we found that browsers were leaning over guests to reach books, so we have closed the bookshop to browsers, when we have the cafe open.
Please enjoy your time with us.

Our Aim.
We are book dealers, in many ways a trade that has way too many unfair competitors. From the charity shop to the on-line private sellers none of whom pay taxes or rates or have the overheads we have. Yet people love to browse in bookshops, and our aim is to let them do so in a way that is both relaxing and gives them a sense of well-being. We hope this will loosen their purse strings.
Our Old Town once had six second-hand book shops, now there are just two. Those shops were closed by the unfair competition from Oxfam , who can open in prime sites pay none of the taxes we pay and get their stock for no cost. They treat British towns like multinationals used to be accused of treating third world countries. Fairtrade my ***.
June and I meet in High Street book shop (now closed).I ran two shops, Boulevard where I live, and High street. June moved in and we got married in Thailand. June was at first refused a spouses visa and I had to go to the appeal court to get June back to the U.K.
We had a lot of help from our local member of Parliament Michael Foster and from customers, family and friend, and we give thanks for their kind help.
In October 2014,I retired from the bench after 33 years.
